The reason for their overwhelming popularity was the fact that there were a lot of scientific discoveries being made at the time and it was a fictuous, supernatural element, which offered an escape from these serious life changing developments of the time. The Red Room was written in 1896, at the ed of the Victorian era, but is till a clear example of the genre. For Wells to write such a story was an interesting choice as he was most famous for his science fiction writing such as The Time Machine and War of the Worlds. Some of ghost stories main influences come from the Gothic traditions, with settings in large, old castles, gloomy settings and persecution. Although A little place off the Edgware Road was written in 1947 it clearly shows that it is rooted in its genre. Greene qouted Bishop Blougrams Apology, saying our interests on the dangerous edge of things. Both stories share the same central theme of ghost stories: the ability of the dead to return and confront the living, with The Red Room being much more traditional than A Little Place of the Edgware Road. The Red Room is set in the Victorian era in very traditional Gothic setings. It is situated in an old, dark, gloomy castle, in which the inhabitants are described in a manner which makes them seem goulish and ghostlike. The plot revolves around the young man who is staying in the castle purely so he can dispel any beliefs that the house is haunted. It is set in nineteen thirties London, and the main place of action is an old picture house, although the setting inside the picture house is very much in keeping to the Gothic tradition of ghost stories. The plot revolves around a man, Craven, a seedy character who has a deep dark fear that the body stays alive after death and burial and the ghosts of the corpses freely roam the earth as they looked when they were killed. He comes face to face with his darkest fear inside the cinema when he meets with what we are led to believe is a ghost. This ghost is the embodiment of all his fears, and ultimately results in Craven losing his mind. The Red Room is in first person narrative. This is again in keeping with the traditions of the genre. The reason that the story is written in this narrative is so that it makes the reader feel closer to the character. It is to make the reader feel emotive towards the narrator, so when he is scared the reader feels scared for him. The narrator in ghost stories is usually a completely normal person who has nothing strange or peculiar about them, thus overcoming the scepticism of the reader. The Red Room is no exception to the rule, the narrator in this story is a completely normal, unimaginative, clinical man, who is completely unsuperstitious, this is why the reader is so shocked when he becomes panicky and really believes there is a ghost in the room. The other story in comparison is completely in contrast to The Red Room. It is in the 3rd person narrative, and the male protagonist is not a normal, down to earth person, he is a seedy character, bordering on the edge of insanity. I believe Greene uses these options so that the reader can get a more in depth view of Cravens mental problems, because if he were describing himself he would obviously see himself as normal, so you wouldnt get the in depth description of him and his fears. As has already been explained above, the male protagonists in both stories are as far dissimilair from each other as is possible. The man in The Red Room is a young, intelligent man, who is very clinical about his observations, and is an unsuperstitious, unimaginative person. Wells uses words such as clinical observation when talking about the mans assessment of his surroundings. This gives off the impression that the man would like to dispel any doubt in his mind that there was a possibility of another creature or being in the room with him. However this clinical observation is not enough resulting in the man having to light candles and place them all around the room to get rid of any dancing shadows, strange shapes etc. The character in A Little Place off the Edgware Road is completely against the traditioanal normality. He is described as seedy, giving the impression that he is a kind of pervert, and the way he is dressed with his anorak done up right round his face gives the impression that he is a bit dirty and smelly. As the story goes on you start to understand that Craven is a bit mad. THe narrators description of his thoughts about death, that he hopes when he dies that is it, he does not want the body to live on after death because he has a twisted view of the afterlife, he believes that when a body is buried it does not decay, and it just roams underground the world, which is like a honeycomb, a labyrinth of tunnels, leading up into the real world, where they walk freely, bodies as they were when they were buried decrepit and decaying. Craven is very superstitious and does have some religious belief although it is described as being like a worm lodged in a nut, meaning it was inside of him but it was making him rotten, like a worm in a nut. Craven hates his body and carries it around like something he hates, he is extremeley jealous and envious of people who have good bodies, like the guardsmen. The settings of both stories are contrasting in some ways but similair in others. They are both situated in dark areas, The Red Room in the castle and A Little Place off the Edgware Road in a cinema. The eras in which they are both set, however, are contrasting, one is set before a time of much scientific discovery, and one after, ironically, it is the one set after the discoveries which contains the most doubt and superstition. The settings of both the stories help create an atmosphere of edginess, not quite knowing what lurks in the darkness beyond. BOth stories are set with some element of insanity in The Red Room it is the housekeepers who are senile, and in A Little Place off the Edgware Road it is Craven who is mad. Both stories are based over a relatively short period of time, both events take place in a just one evening or night. The Red Room builds up tension from the start when describing the houskeepers, he describes them as grotesque custodians this portrays the castle as not a very nice place to be, but when the man is having a conversation with these grotesque custodians they are trying to persuade him notto go to the room, telling him that it is haunted and that it is his own doing whether he goes up there or not, there is also added tension when they refuse to walk him to the room on account of being scared, there is also a recurring comment of this night of all nights leading you to believe that this was a significant night in the haunting of the room. When the man is walking to the Red Room he fills in the reader with the details of the haunting of the room, that two people have died as a result of the room, and that the stairs outside the door had been involved in both incidents. However as the man is clinical in his observations he dismisses these deaths as untimely heart attacks and stumbles etc. On his journey to the room the man describes his surroundings and describes when he sees the shadows of the brass and thinks that it may be a creature. THis adds tension because he says he stood there for a while with his hand on his revolver, scared, when he knew it was just a trick of the light, this adds tension because it shows that even this man who seems scared of nothing was scared by a trick of shadows, showing his humanity and vulnerabiluity. When he gets to the room he describes the darkness, and how it had the eerie feeling of a prescence and this leads him to get the candles. When the main event starts happening, at first he dismisses it as a gust of wind so as not to get wound up but when he starts panicking he creates tension as his descriptions become more frantic and you feel his desperation. When all the lights go out tension is at a maximum with him running like a blind man, and eventually it climaxes with him knocking himself out. A Little Place off the Edgware Road the suspense builds up with the narrators description of Cravens dreams, of his grotesque underground labyrinth of corpses. THis makes the reader feel as if Craven is possibly a bit crazy. Then the tension dies down until he gets to the cinema where his dreams recur again, describing peoplelaying down as corpses sprawled out, when the film starts to play it is about the fall of a Roman Empire, the fall of a once great thing, which is the impression we get which has happened to Craven. When the ghost comes into the room you do not know that it is a ghost from the description, Greene uses the lack of visibilty well in his descriptions of Cravens impression, because Craven cannot see the ghost in a detailed way he does not know what is wrong with him. He describes him like the man in the Red Room describes the housekeepers, that he is disgusting. You are made to wonder what is wrong with the man because Craven is describing him as mad, yet Craven is mad aswell, which shows how mad he thinks the little man is. However when he starts talking about the murder and how he knows about them things you begin to believe as does Craven that the man is a murderer and just as Craven goes to confront him he is gone, leaving all the tension lingering. The endings are not dissimilar in the way that they both involve a change in the protagonist. The Red Roomhas a double twist, it ends with the man saying that indeed the room is haunted, leading you to believe that he has changed his views on the supernatural, only to be twisted again to say that it is no haunted by fear but by Fear. He says that fear gets to you and doesnt let go until it tips you over the edge and its all down to the human imagination. Soin fact he hadnt changed his mind but comes up with a logical explanation for it. However it doe leave a question open for the reader, whether they believe him that it was purely fear, or that it was a ghost and the man knows this and is just saying this to keep up appearances. A Little Place off the Edgware Road finishes with a twist as well, when Craven decides that the man is in fact a murderer and goes to inform the Police, he is confronted by his deepest fear, that the man he was actually speaking with in the cinema was in fact the ghost of the murdered body. This tips Craven over the edge and he finally goes compeltey mad.

My Best Teaching Experience (Personal Story)

My Best Teaching Experience (Personal Story) Teaching can be a demanding profession. There are times when students can seem uninterested in learning and disruptive to the classroom environment. There are plenty of studies and educational strategies for  improving student behavior. But personal experience may be the best way to show how to turn a difficult student into a dedicated pupil. I had such an experience: one where I was able to help change a student with major behavioral issues into a learning success story.   Troubled Student Tyler was enrolled in my senior American government class for a semester, followed by a second semester by economics. He had impulse-control and anger management issues. He had been suspended many times in previous years. When he entered my class in his senior year, I assumed the worst. Tyle sat in the back row. I had never used a seating chart with students on the first day when I was just getting to know them. Every time I talked at the front of the class, I would ask questions of students, calling them by name. This helped me to get to know the students. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a glib answer. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry. About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at the least motivate them to sit quietly and attentively. By contrast, Tyler was just loud and obnoxious. Battle of Wills Tyler had been in so much trouble through the years that it had become his modus operandi. He expected his teachers to know about his  referrals, where he was sent to the office, and suspensions, where he was given mandatory days to stay out of school. He would push every teacher to see what it would take to get a referral. I tried to outlast him. I had rarely found referrals to be effective because students would return from the office behaving worse than before. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. In the middle of the lesson, I said in the same tone of voice, Tyler why dont you join our discussion instead of having one of your own. With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I cant remember what he said other than that he included several profanity words. I sent Tyler to the office with a discipline referral, and he received a weeks out-of-school suspension. To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. I dreaded that class every day. Tylers anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was out of school was a wonderful hiatus, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I dreaded his return. The Plan On the day of Tylers return, I stood at the door awaiting him. As soon as I saw him, I asked Tyler to talk to me for a moment. He seemed unhappy to do it but agreed. I told him that I wanted to start over with him. I also told him that if he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he had my permission to step outside the door for a moment to collect himself. From that point on, Tyler was a changed student. He listened and he participated in class. He was a smart student, something I could finally witness in him. He even stopped a fight between two other students one day. He never abused  his break time privilege. Giving Tyler the power to leave the classroom showed him that he had the ability to choose how he would behave. At the end of the year, Tyler wrote me a thank you note about how well the year had gone for him. I still have that note today and find it touching to reread when I get stressed about teaching. Avoid Prejudgment This experience changed me as a teacher. I came to understand that students are people who have feelings and who dont want to feel cornered. They want to learn, but they also want to feel as if they have some control over themselves. I never made assumptions again about students before they came into my class. Every student is different; no two students react in the same way. It is our task as teachers to find not only what motivates each student to learn but also what motivates them to misbehave. If we can meet them at that point and take away that motivation, we can go a long way toward achieving more  effective classroom management  and a better learning environment.

The study of Tziner, Meir, and Segal (2002) found that higher levels of performance had a strong correlation with extroverted personality style and congruence which was in accordance with the predictions of TWA. ... The Holland’s Theory of Vocational Personalities in Work Environment provides a typology framework on career interest and environment which is simple and easy to understand and is used both in career counseling and guidance. In accordance with the theory, vocational interest is perceived as an expression of an individual’s personality. Holland postulated the concept of vocational interest by six typologies, which are Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. A study conducted by Tak (2004) revealed that the arrangement of interest was not clearly hexagonal, therefore, contrary to the postulations of Holland. The general findings of another study conducted by Sverko and Babarovic (2006) revealed consistency with Holland’s circular model. The general findings from other international studies suggested that in accordance with cultural context the six interest levels tend to occupy clusters mirroring the idiosy ncratic cultural values and occupational perceptions. The most suggested arrangement was Realistic-Investigative, Artistic-Social, and Social-Enterprising-Conventional. Such an arrangement is contrary to the hexagonal arrangement postulated by Holland. Continuous Professional Development: Continuous Professional Development is composed of diverse dimensions which are different for different institutions and professional individuals. To be specific, the first Klan can be connected with its origin, the second with its growth/development and the third with its decline. The people who were in favor of racial equality were treated cruelly or murdered by the Klan members. But the Force Acts passed by the authorities in 1870 and the following year were helpful to limit the anti-social deeds initiated by the Klan. In short, the first Klan can be considered as the crude form of KKK, which spread the message of racial supremacy among the people in America. The second Klan: 1915–1944 The formation of the second Klan was in Georgia, in the year 1915. So, this year can be considered as the benchmark of the growth and development of Klan as a racist organization. But Laqueur ( 1977), opines that â€Å"The Second Klan (ca. 1915- 1944) also stood for white supremacy, but at the same time it campaigned for a great many other causes such as patriotism and attacked bootleggers, crapshooters and even wife-beaters† (p.10). Later in 1921, the leaders transformed the Klan from unorganized groups to well knit organization. For instance, the second Klan adopted an innovative system to recruit new members to the organization which accelerated its popularity among the majority. From a different angle of view, large scale immigration helped the Klan to spread its influence to the Western parts of America. Besides, more and more ideas were inculcated to the initial plan to spread racism. The Chrysalids:   The Importance of Telepathy    Some people dream about having an ability to communicate through mental telepathy.   Some even claimed to have this ability but it played an important role in the novel The Chrysalids.   The author created an interesting environment.   There was no communication and the only people who could communicate between each other were the ones that had the power of telepathy.   Because in some areas the land was so dangerous because of the radiation that people were cut of from another and left on a small piece of land.   They could not communicate.   Though-shapes not only developed the plot of the story but greatly affected the lives of some characters and might affect Waknuk.   Ã‚  Ã‚   We all know that people in Waknuk were very superstitious but did it actually help the plot to develop?  Ã‚   On page 91 through 103 finally and idea gets out about some people being able to communicate through thought-shapes.   When Katherine and Sally got caught and tortured they finally tell some of the names to the inspector.   This forces David, Rosalind and Petra to runaway to the fringes, and they established some kind of contact with a woman from Sealant (Zealand, On page 134).   The help that the sealant woman promised is on their way to the fringes.   The plot is greatly influenced, David learns more things as the time goes on.   He discovers who is the Spiderman(Gordon) and where is Sophie.   He meets them and learn what it is like to live in the fringes.   When the sealant woman rescues David, Rosalind and Petra they are brought to a big, developed city like the one in David's dreams. Because of the telepathy David discovers that such a city really exists but most of all through Petra they establish contact with a more civilized people than they are.   Because of the conflicts in the story it leads the main characters to discover the sealant city.   Ã‚  Ã‚   Telepathy not only affects the plot of the story but also the main characters in the novel.   The most obvious thing is that David, Rosalind and Petra are saved.   They have a chance to learn, experience new things they never saw or heard before.

By those results authos analysed their responces and he explained in the form of Pie charts. Question No: 1. Are you satisfied with the management strategies in the Toyota Company? Yes or No. This question addresses the management strategies towords the Toyota company development in the form of production quality marketing customer needs.By passing the questionnaires to 8 respondents for the survey in that 6 persons that is 75% said that they are satisfied with the company strategies, 25% of the participents said that they are unsatisfied with the management. Question 2: In your opinion is Toyota reaching the customer expectations? e) Completely f) Satisfactory g) Partially h) No This question addresses the Toyota company total customer satisfaction o the Toyota company. The total respondents for this survey is 8 members in that 6 members that is 75% of the respondents said that they are satisfied with Toyota product. 12. 5% respondents said that they are patially satisfied. Question 3: Qualities of the manufacturing products are reaching the standards of ISO? Yes or NO. This question addresses the quality standards of the Toyota company and it’s ISO certification.Out of the 8 respondents 6 members said that Toyota reched the ISO 9000 quality and 25% of the respondents said no for the ISO standars. Question 4: Just in time method is very useful in the process of manufacturing. True or False. Toyota Company introduced this JIT method all the members in the survey responded positively so the results will be 100% True. Based on the survey the respondents out of 8 members 7 persons that is 87. 5% are said that lean production giving more advantages to the Toyota company and 12. 5% of respondents are gave their opinion they don’t.Question 6: Toyota Company taking more cares about the customer health and safety precautions. Here author tried to know the local store service and their working ability with customers and vehicles. Out of the 8 members 62. 5% people feel that local store service is good and 37. 5% said no. Toyota is the most trusted company all over the world on the other hand minute problems with the products in the company are negative factors for the management.
